Oracle Critical Patch Update April 2008: E-Business Suite Impact
Every quarter, Oracle releases a Critical Patch Update (CPU) that fixes a hundred or so security bugs in all the Oracle products including the Oracle Database, Oracle Application Server, and Oracle E-Business Suite. These patches are large, complex, and often difficult to understand for the Oracle E-Business since multiple patches are required with some being cumulative and others needing prerequisites. This eLearning session will focus on the April 2008 CPU and the impact on E-Business Suite environments. Topics will include a review of the security vulnerabilities fixed in the CPU, an analysis of the required CPU patches, and a discussion of a high-level patch strategy. Example vulnerabilities will be demonstrated in order to show how easy it is exploit many of the fixed security bugs.

Migrating from OFA to Hyperion Planning
We will talk about our experiences as pioneers in the migration of established Oracle Reporting (OFA and EPB) to Hyperion, where the successes and surprises occurred, what the technical challenges were and what still remains. We will identify the patches and strategies critical to our success using 20/20 hindsight.
We will begin with a synopsis of the existing business case, one for OFA and one for EPB before our migration to Hyperion Planning. We will talk about what alternatives were considered, what the strategic objectives were, and how our projects teams were structured. Our methodology for requirements gathering, technical development, unit test, application test, user hands-on feedback, test and training setup, and production deployment will be shown in conjunction with the objectives for each phase for each project. After we have established the business case for each project, we will switch our focus to the technical implementation and how this was accomplished.
We will compare and contrast our OFA and Hyperion functionality in their current releases just prior to our migration effort. We will discuss the underlying architectural similarities and differences between these products relative to an Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 environment, as well as their announced statements of future direction. We will show the overlap and distinctions between the products in their utilization of the relational and multi-dimensional sides of the technology, query and presentation, user control and security, data entry forms and worksheets, and other database objects, as well as our workarounds. Then, given our 20/20 hindsight from our learning experiences, we will make some recommendations for what we would change the next time, what skill sets are needed on the team, and how to avoid trouble spots in the future.
